Acik Atolye (Open Workshop) is a production-based workshop that aims to teach its participants to use photography as a form of expression. Also, the workshop gives particular importance to understanding photographers who similarly use photography.
The workshop, under Oguz Karakutuk, includes two parts: the theory and the project. The first part of the workshop consists of ten weeks. During these first ten weeks, participants conduct readings on photography and discussions on various photography works by focusing on a specific topic each week. The project part, on the other hand, lasts six weeks, and each participant produces an individual project on a particular concept until the end of the workshop period, inspired by a selected renowned artist.
Acik Atolye is a process that covers all the steps from planning the project to actualizing it, from choosing a visual language to possible ethical/practical issues, from crucial editing-design strategies to the transformation of the work into a photobook or an exhibition.
