Based on the urgent and inevitable need for a new understanding of the earth, Pankromatika 4.0 Art in the Age of Global Warming speech series bringing together artists and scholars from different disciplines, under the mentorship of academician Aykut Celebi and artist Ece Akay, continue at Ka in order to discuss art with analysis in science in the age of global climate change.
Pankromatika 4.0’s third session brings together Aslı Odman, Zeynep Sayın and Kerem Ozan Bayraktar for a conversation under the title of ‘Techno-fetishism and the Destruction of Nature by Neoliberal Authoritarian Marketing: A Critique’.
Aslı Odman
Aslı Odman completed her bachelor and master degree in economics and politics in Vienna, then she got a doctorate degree from Bogazici University. In her master’s thesis, she researched economic processes of nation-stateization in Mexico and Turkey and in her doctoral thesis, she studied the global production network of Ford Company starting from the assembly plant of Ford in Tophane. Her recent studies focus on profit-oriented university companies and corporate crimes and state crimes against environment, urban spaces, public and worker’s health with reference to workplaces such as construction sites, sound stages, mining sites, farming areas etc.
Zeynep Sayın
Zeynep Sayın, literary critic, art theorist ve academician was born in Istanbul in 1961, she is a literary critic, art theorist and academician. She studied literature, art history and philosophy in Istanbul, Strazburg and Vienna. She worked in different universities in Istanbul and Mardin Artuklu University, Department of Architecture. She is giving lectures in Hochschule für Grafik, Leipzig and in Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Buchkunst and Vienna. The books that she wrote are Mithat Şen ve Bedenyazısı (Kaknüs, 1999), Noli me tangere (Kaknüs, 2000), İmgenin Pornografisi (Metis, 2003) and Kötülük Cemaatleri (Tekhne, 2016).
Kerem Ozan Bayraktar
Kerem Ozan Bayraktar (1984) lives and works in Istanbul. He carries out research and work focusing on change, mutation, diversity and replication, mainly using animations, 3D computer visualizations, scale models and texts. Bayraktar reproduces and describes the boundaries, cycles and interactions between artificial and natural systems within the scope of a wide range of research, from planetary morphologies to urban plants. He completed his master's degree and proficiency in art at Marmara University Fine Arts Institute, working on "Digital Image" and "System Theory". The artist's works are featured in local and foreign publications, video screenings and collections. Besides his art studies Assoc. Dr. Kerem Ozan Bayraktar is a lecturer at Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, Painting Department.
