Phantoms Emerge Like a Cloud Upon The Table

26.01.—10.02.2024

KAYAHAN KAYA

"At the table, there may be more people than chairs; many individuals, whose stories are told, dreams are imagined, and thoughts are pondered, also join the table. Sometimes, the traces of the past or everyone who has made us who we are until that moment are present at the table; ghosts seem to gather around. This instllation is not a statement but a question: What if we could see the ghosts crowding the table?”

Curated by Elâ Atakan, the exhibition Stones from the Sea is inspired by the fact that limestone was once in the sea, the space it occupies on the temporal level, and the fact that it can perhaps never be imagined within the confines of human life. Similarly, the eight artists from Türkiye and around the world represent but a brief period in the life of the very stone they use in the studio. A balance exists between the diminishing of the stone and the passage of time.
